Here in Goa, we get the summer monsoon rains for four months from June onwards. The blotched – leaf plants in one of your pictures are Spotted crotons. The Indian Mast Trees here have a local name, Ashoka (meaning sorrowless, in Sanskrit). It is said that the tree bursts into flowers if a chaste woman nudges it with her toe! Sita, the virtuous wife of Rama in the Hindu epic Ramayana, is said to have successfully experimented this when she had been imprisoned in a garden of Ashoka trees by the demon king Ravana. There are a couple of 10-year old Ashoka trees in my neighbourhood which haven’t flowered ever. But I won’t try Sita’s trick on them; I might only see a stubbed toe!Shailajanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7797396120087729156.post-13363232495794679692010-01-11T16:55:34.414+11:002010-01-11T16:55:34.414+11:00FANTASTIC photos - love all the tropical varieties...FANTASTIC photos - love all the tropical varieties.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13755278209399870145noreply@blogger.com
